The MUFAs & The PUFAs - Texas Raised Wagyu Beef from Weise Farms
Updated: Mar 26
We did not start out with a goal of selling our beef like we are now. We actually just started sharing pictures of our delicious foods on social media, and people who saw it started asking if they could buy some.
The farm has been in the Weise family since 1854. Tim is the 5th generation to live on this farm with our son Zach and his wife Brooke being the 6th, and our grandchildren Gable and Emmy being the 7th generations living on the lands of Weise Farms now as well.
Over the years, corn, peanuts and cotton were grown on these pastures, and cattle were always part of the farm.
Tim’s parents were very self-sufficient, and that turned into a way of life for us as well. As they aged, they turned over the cattle to us. We have had various breeds of cattle throughout the years.
It just made sense to use the farm as it was intended for all of these generations. So as a way of keeping the farm more sustainable, we explored selling our beef locally, and it seems to have been the right thing to do. After all, shouldn't Texans eat Texas raised beef? We think so!
We heard about wagyu beef and all of the wonderful health benefits it brings to the table. Wagyu beef naturally contains a higher percentage of omega-3 than regular beef, making it heart healthy as well.
MUFAs & PUFAs
Wagyu beef is lower in total cholesterol than beef from other breeds. Wagyu beef has a much higher proportion of the desirable monounsaturated fats (“MUFA”). MUFA has been proven by a variety of research to be either neutral to cholesterol levels, or to lower cholesterol levels, while also increasing HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Eating meats high in MUFAs is proven to be healthier than a diet of lean meats. Read that again.
Wagyu beef also contains PUFA, or polyunsaturated fatty acids, another essential fatty acid which is important for nerve function, blood clotting, brain health, and muscle strength.
“Essential fatty acids” are fatty acids that are essential to human health, but which cannot be “manufactured” by the human body and which must therefore come into the body through one’s diet. Wagyu beef is packed with essential fatty acids.
Wagyu is also higher in a type of fatty acid called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Wagyu beef contains the highest amount of CLA per gram of any other food – about 30% more than other beef breeds. CLA is an essential fatty acid that's important for good health. As an antioxidant, CLA may have cancer-fighting properties, and in fighting off heart disease.
Health food stores often sell CLA as a weight loss supplement, but it’s particularly effective when you consume food that contains it naturally. Your body most easily absorbs nutrients directly from your diet, as opposed to supplements.
Consider replacing your grocery store beef with wagyu beef from Weise Farms. The benefits are many and varied, including a healthy dose of iron, choline, vitamins A, B, E and K2.
Wagyu beef has all of the essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from its complete protein profile, and its complete fat profile for the brain and body to thrive through a busy day. We think it is one of the most nutritious whole foods a human can consume.
When you taste your first bite of Wagyu, you may think that it’s too good to be true. But those are the facts: marbled, tender, delicious meats can also be a source of important health benefits. So don’t be afraid of fat or red meat. Learn how different amino acids work in your body, and you can make informed decisions about your diet. Now that you’ve learned a few of the important health benefits of Wagyu beef, give it a try!
