Shingles Setbacks and the Moo-Cow Chorus

Writer's picture: Becky WeiseBecky Weise

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

We had plans to wean calves back in November, but on November 9, those plans suddenly came to a halt. It felt like I was being electrocuted. Lightening bolts were shocking the left half of my face and scalp every few seconds. My eye swelled shut. It was painful. I've never experienced anything like it.

It was shingles.

Yes... I had taken the shingles vaccine, but unfortunately it didn't stop it from happening. It also wasn't a mild case, and sadly it lasted almost two months.

Keeping my mind off of this debilitating pain was hard. Needless to say it put us behind on so many farm chores.

Finally this past weekend we were able to wean calves and get those mommas some relief. At the moment those mommas don't realize this was a good thing. It sounds like a moo-cow chorus as they cry and walk, searching for their babies.

I don't really know if cows are able to make plans. But if they were able to do that, I am sure those plans were put on hold. Sometimes we have to put our own plans on hold. And sometimes we sing our own moo-cow chorus. Thankfully, God is in control. He knows what is best for us, and He establishes our footsteps.

OMG! That filet was amazing. Coarse salt and pepper crusted, wrapped in bacon, seared in a smoking hot cast iron skillet, flipped and  finished in a 500 degree oven. Killer!

We had a couple of friends over Saturday and I served them Weise Farms wagyu smoked beef ribs. They melted in your mouth!! The flavor was rich and creamy.
